Baldur's Gate 3 Hotfix #36 — cross-play, 12 new subclasses, photo mode and Xbox Series S split-screen

Larian's self-described 'final major update' adds cross-platform multiplayer, 12 new subclasses, a photo mode and Xbox Series S local co-op. Here is what you need to know.

Checked in-game on patch Hotfix #36

Cross-play — the most requested feature

Cross-platform multiplayer has been the single most requested feature since BG3's launch. Hotfix #36 delivers it across all three platforms (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S). Players use the Larian Studios friend system to invite and join games regardless of platform.

This is a full cross-play implementation, not cross-progression or cross-save. Your save files remain platform-specific.

12 new subclasses

The update adds 12 new subclasses drawn from D&D 5e sourcebooks that were not included in the original game. These expand the build options for existing classes rather than adding entirely new base classes.

⚠️ The specific subclass list has not been independently verified against the in-game class selection screen. We are working from Larian's announcement. Check the character creation screen for the confirmed list.

Photo mode

A dedicated photo mode is now accessible from the pause menu, providing camera controls and visual filters for capturing screenshots. This is a quality-of-life addition with no gameplay impact.

Xbox Series S split-screen

Local split-screen co-op is now available on Xbox Series S. This was previously exclusive to Xbox Series X and PS5 due to the Series S's more constrained hardware. The implementation may have reduced visual fidelity compared to Series X split-screen.
