LoL Patch 26.20 mid-lane changes — free tier-3 boots and recall cooldown explained

Worlds 2026 patch 26.20 gives mid laners free tier-3 boots and a faster recall cooldown. Here is what changes about laning, roaming and item builds.

What changed for mid lane

Patch 26.20 introduces two mid-lane-specific changes that reshape the early game economy:

Free tier-3 boots. When your boots reach the tier-3 upgrade threshold, the upgrade is now free. This removes a gold sink from the mid-lane build path and effectively gives mid laners a 700–1100 gold head start on their first major item compared to pre-patch.

Faster recall cooldown. Mid laners get a reduced recall cooldown, allowing more frequent trips back to base without losing lane priority. Combined with the free boots, this creates more windows for roaming and objective control.

How this affects champion selection

The free boots benefit champions that rely on movement speed for roaming — Talon, Qiyana and Akali gain more from the early speed advantage than stationary mages. The faster recall is universally good but especially strong on champions with global ultimates (Twisted Fate, Pantheon) who can recall, shop and return to a different lane.

People also ask

Which boots are included in the free tier-3 upgrade?
All tier-3 boots that existed before patch 26.20. Sorcerer's Shoes, Berserker's Greaves, Mercury's Treads, etc. The upgrade happens automatically at the boot tier-up threshold.
Does the faster recall affect all roles or just mid?
The recall cooldown reduction is mid-lane specific. Other lanes are unchanged.
