Map Rating — the new meta-layer

Patch 13.08 introduces Map Rating, a proficiency tracking system that gives each player a per-map score from 0 to 500 with a letter grade (C through S). The rating is calculated from four data points: total win rate, attack-side win rate, defence-side win rate and Performance Score. Recent matches carry more weight than older ones.

The rating is private — only you can see it. It appears in agent select, post-match and the career page. All players start at zero regardless of historical match data.

Salt Flats rework

The most significant map change in 13.08 is a comprehensive rework of Salt Flats based on a year of competitive data:

Defender rotations (A and B sites): The paths from defender spawn to both deployment zones have been adjusted. The previous rotation times were too long, preventing timely retakes. The new routes are shorter and safer, giving defenders a more realistic chance to respond to early site takes.

Mid area: The half-wall in mid has been replaced with a metal barrier and moved outward by 1 metre. This eliminates the defender wall-bang spam that previously dominated mid engagements. Attackers now have more room to push toward A small without being exposed to the previous chokepoint. A new step-up point has been added near the B-side box, and the mid low-ground wall has been raised to prevent players from peeking over from the repositioned box.

A site deploy zone: The spike deployment area on A has been adjusted to reduce the power of post-plant positions from A small.

The current competitive map pool now includes: Bind, Salt Flats, Lotus, Sunset, Pearl, Icebox and Abyss (subject to confirmation — check the in-game queue for the definitive list).

Performance Score tuning

The 13.06 introduction of Performance Score replacing ACS was the biggest competitive metric change in Valorant's history. Patch 13.08 refines it:

  • Increased weight for damage, modified kills and modified deaths (these include first kill and first death events)
  • Chamber-specific adjustment to better reflect his utility usage in the scoring model

These changes address community feedback that the original Performance Score formula undervalued raw damage output in favour of utility contributions.

People also ask

What is Map Rating and how does it work?
Map Rating is a per-map proficiency score from 0 to 500 with a C-to-S letter grade. It evaluates your total win rate, attack-side win rate, defence-side win rate and Performance Score on each map. Only you can see your rating. All players start from zero at launch.
Which maps are in the Act 6 competitive pool?
Bind and Salt Flats enter the competitive and Swiftplay queues. Ascent and Neon District leave.
Did Performance Score change again?
Yes. The 13.08 tuning increases the weight of damage, modified kills and modified deaths (including first kill and first death). Chamber also gets a scoring adjustment to better reflect his utility.
